Venues

I have chosen venue from my three options because I feel it has the least going for it on the internet.

A venue is: The site of the meeting or event.

The music industry are concerned with specific types of venues known as music venues. Venues can vary in size, from really tiny to incredibly huge. Venues also vary in type for example, they may be outside, such as the Milton Keynes Bowl. A venue may also have other functions. Some may normally be pubs, nightclubs, parks, or even ice rinks. Venues can be either permanent or temporary. An arena, for example, is a permanent venue whereas a festival site tends to be temporary.

The people within the music industry that are involved in venues include:
- Venue owners
- Employees of the venue (those in charge with organising an event)
- Tour managers (who book the venue)
- Artists (who also might book the venue)
- Ticket sellers (online or box office)

Venues will normally charge the public for admission. Tickets may need to be bought prior to the event to guarantee entrance. In some cases however, entrance may be free, although this isn’t too common. Venues often have their own box office somewhere on their premises. They may also have their own website in which you may buy tickets for their events. For example, the box office for Rock City in Nottingham is located in the entrance of the venue. Rock City also has an online store where you can buy tickets for shows at Rock City and the other venues that they own around Nottingham.
As well as venues selling tickets to their own events, there are also some websites which sell tickets to gigs all around the country and the world, for hundreds of different venues. The most popular of these seem to be ticketmaster and see tickets.
The ways that venues tend to use the internet can be through the above way of selling tickets. However most tend to have a website that provides information of the venue. They may however, incorporate both in the same website. A few examples of venue websites are: Rock City, Carling Academy, NIA, Sheffield Corporation etc.

I think venue is a good choice because there are lots of opportunities to look at within it, and I think it’s an interesting topic to look at in further detail and develop.

I agree with Gina, it covers alot of areas which gives you alot to consider and think upon. A music Promoter would sort out gig venues which links beautifully to my blog post on Music promotion, which can be found here http://mc536adams.wordpress.com.
